# Using Jumper safely

> Best practices for smooth swaps, bridges, and yield on Jumper

Keep these tips in mind when using Jumper.

## Slippage and pricing

* Set slippage to balance reliability and price. Tight slippage may fail more; wider slippage may fill more but can reduce output.

## Approvals

* Some tokens require approval before swapping. Approval is a separate transaction.
* Prefer limited approvals when your wallet supports it.

## Gas and fees

* You pay gas on the chain where you sign. Multi-step routes can need gas for more than one step.
* Review expected gas and any provider fees before confirming.

## Status and tracking

* Stay on the tracking screen until completion, especially for bridges.
